Daily Carb Intake Calculator

Find your daily carb target.

How it is calculated

The tool converts a share of your daily calories into grams of carbohydrate: grams = calories × percent / 100 / 4. Calories are your total daily energy target in kcal, percent is the share you want from carbohydrate, and 4 is the kcal per gram of carbohydrate. The result is rounded to a whole number of grams. If you leave the percentage empty or negative the tool assumes 50%. It does not know your calorie needs, so the calorie figure should come from your own target. It also does not separate sugars from fibre or starch.

Worked example

A daily target of 2,200 kcal with 50% from carbohydrate. Carb calories: 2200 × 50 / 100 = 1,100 kcal. Divide by 4 kcal per gram: 1100 / 4 = 275 g per day. Spread over four meals, that is roughly 69 g each.

Common mistakes

  • Entering 0.5 instead of 50. The percentage field is a whole percent.
  • Using the calories you ate yesterday instead of your target calories for the day.
  • Confusing grams with calories. The result is grams of carbohydrate, and one gram is 4 kcal.
  • Leaving the percentage empty and forgetting that 50% is then used, which is not a low-carb plan.

About this calculator

This calculator finds a daily carbohydrate gram target by taking a percentage of total daily calories and dividing by 4, since carbohydrates provide 4 kilocalories per gram — the same conversion nutrition labels use.

It's used by people following a specific macro split like keto (very low carb) or a standard 45–65% carb diet, by athletes tuning carb intake around training, and by people managing diabetes who need to keep carb grams within a target range per meal or per day.
