Zakat Calculator

Calculate the zakat owed on your wealth.

Result

$500.00
$19,500.00

How it is calculated

The tool applies a flat rate of 2.5% to the total zakatable wealth you enter: zakat = wealth × 0.025 and remaining = wealth - zakat. Wealth is one number in a single currency, the sum of the assets you consider zakatable, such as cash, savings and gold or silver at their current value. The tool does not check the nisab threshold, the lunar-year holding period or deductible debts, so you must decide beforehand what to include and whether zakat is due. Scholarly schools differ on some asset types. Negative amounts return no result, and values are shown to two decimals.

Worked example

Suppose your zakatable wealth, after you have added up eligible savings and assets, is 20000. Zakat = 20000 × 0.025 = 500, shown as $500.00. The amount left after paying it is 20000 - 500 = 19500, shown as $19,500.00. The currency symbol on screen is only a display format; the same 2.5% applies in any currency.

Common mistakes

  • Applying the 2.5% to every asset without first checking that total wealth is above the nisab and has been held for a full lunar year.
  • Including a home you live in or personal items that are normally not zakatable.
  • Forgetting to subtract short-term debts you owe, if your school of thought allows it.
  • Entering gold in grams instead of its current money value; the tool expects an amount of money.

About this calculator

This calculator computes the zakat owed on eligible wealth — cash, savings, gold, silver, and business assets held for a full lunar year above the nisab threshold — at the standard rate of 2.5%, the obligatory annual charitable contribution required in Islam.

Muslims use it once a year, typically during Ramadan, to work out exactly how much zakat they owe across different asset types without needing to consult a scholar for the arithmetic, while the nisab threshold itself (traditionally pegged to the value of gold or silver) determines whether zakat is due at all in a given year.
