Weeks to Months Pregnant

See how many months along you are from your pregnancy week count.

Result

4.60

How it is calculated

The tool converts weeks into calendar months with months = weeks × 7 ÷ 30.44. Weeks times 7 gives days, and 30.44 is the average length of a calendar month in days (365.25 ÷ 12). That is about 4.35 weeks per month, so it is not the 4 weeks per month shortcut. The result is rounded to two decimals, and fractional weeks are accepted (12.5 gives 2.87). The input must be between 0 and 45 weeks: zero returns 0.00, while a negative number or anything above 45 gives no result. Pregnancy weeks are counted from the first day of the last period, so the month figure is also counted from that day, not from conception. The same rule treats 40 weeks as 9.20 months, a little more than the nine months of popular speech.

Worked example

You are 20 weeks pregnant. Convert to days: 20 × 7 = 140 days. Divide by the average month: 140 ÷ 30.44 = 4.5992, shown as 4.60 months. In everyday terms that is the middle of the fifth month, because a figure of 4.6 means four complete months plus 60 % of the fifth. At 40 weeks the same method gives 9.20, so a full-term pregnancy reaches into a tenth calendar month.

Common mistakes

  • Reading 4.60 as 4 months and 6 days. The decimals are tenths and hundredths of a month, so 0.60 of a month is about 18 days.
  • Entering months in the weeks field. The input is weeks of pregnancy; 5 means week 5, not the fifth month.
  • Entering the weeks since conception instead of weeks counted from the last period. The two differ by about two weeks, so the result will be low by about half a month.
  • Expecting 40 weeks to equal exactly 9 months. The tool gives 9.20, and many sources round to 9 or 10, so the answer depends on the rule behind each source.
  • Using the figure for medical dating. Scans, tests and due dates are set in completed weeks and days, and the month number is for conversation only.

About this calculator

Obstetricians track pregnancy in completed weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period, since it is the most precise and consistent unit for scheduling scans, tests and due-date calculations — but most people naturally think in months. There is no single official conversion because months are not a fixed number of weeks, so this calculator uses the average month length of 30.44 days, about 4.35 weeks per month, so 40 weeks comes to about 9.2 months, rather than the simpler but less accurate 4-weeks-per-month lunar-month shortcut.

Knowing your month count still matters for everyday milestones — moving from the first to second trimester around month 3, entering the “third trimester” conversation around month 7, or simply answering the question every pregnant person gets asked constantly. The rough mapping also helps compare notes with older due-date charts, baby-size comparisons and pregnancy apps that mix weeks and months interchangeably.
