Shoe Size Converter
What is my shoe size abroad?
Result
How it is calculated
The tool treats EU size as the common baseline and moves between systems with a fixed offset that depends on the gender chart: for men EU = US + 33 and EU = UK + 34; for women EU = US + 31 and EU = UK + 33. It first converts the size you enter to EU, then derives the other two by subtracting the same offsets: US = EU − 33, UK = EU − 34 (men).
All three results are rounded to the nearest half size, so a 42.3 input shows as 42.50. Sizes are decimals such as 9 or 9.5. Because the offsets are constant, the converter is an approximation and ignores that real EU steps (two-thirds of a centimetre) and US/UK steps (one third of an inch) are not identical. It covers adult men's and women's sizes only and cannot account for brand differences, width or children's sizing.
Worked example
A man wearing a US 9 selects system US, gender men and enters 9. The tool adds the men's US offset: 9 + 33 = 42.00 in EU. The UK size is then the EU size minus the men's UK offset: 42 − 34 = 8.00. Rounding to the nearest half size changes nothing here, so the result is EU 42.00, US 9.00 and UK 8.00. With the women's chart, the same US 9 would instead come out as EU 40.00 and UK 7.00.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the gender on men when converting a women's size. The offsets differ by two for US, so US 8 is EU 41 on the men's chart but EU 39 on the women's.
- Selecting the wrong source system, for example entering a UK size while the system is set to US. The same number gives a result a full size off.
- Typing a European size with a comma, like 42,5, or as a range such as 42-43. Enter one number with a decimal point.
- Treating the output as a guaranteed fit. Brands use different lasts, and the tool only applies a fixed offset.
- Using it for children's or toddler sizes. It only supports adult men's and women's charts.
About this calculator
This converter maps a shoe size across the three main sizing systems — EU (Paris point), US and UK — separately for men's and women's sizing, since the same numeric size means a different actual foot length depending on the system and gender convention used. EU sizes come from the Paris point, where each size step is two-thirds of a centimetre of last length — the inside of the shoe, which runs longer than the foot — while US and UK sizes follow older, less standardized scales whose men's and women's charts diverge for the same foot — the women's number runs higher, by two sizes in the US and by one in the UK.
It's used mainly when buying shoes from a foreign retailer or a foreign brand's website, where the listed size isn't in the system you're used to, and when comparing sizes across brands that print different scales on the box. Because actual fit still varies by manufacturer and shoe last, the conversion is an approximate but reliable starting point rather than a guarantee.
