Glove Size Calculator

Enter your palm circumference in centimeters to find your glove size.

How it is calculated

You enter the circumference of your palm in centimetres, measured around the widest part of the hand just below the knuckles with the thumb left out. The tool converts it to inches: inches = cm ÷ 2.54, then rounds to the nearest half size: size = round(inches × 2) ÷ 2. The letter size comes from this numeric size using fixed bands: below 7 is XS, 7 to 7.5 is S, 7.5 to 8.5 is M, 8.5 to 9.5 is L, 9.5 to 10.5 is XL, and anything larger is XXL. The raw value in inches is shown to two decimals as well. The value must be greater than zero. Brands do not all use the same chart, so treat the output as a starting point and check the maker's own size table, especially for work or safety gloves.

Worked example

A palm measures 22 cm around. Convert to inches: 22 ÷ 2.54 = 8.66 in. Double it: 8.66 × 2 = 17.32, which rounds to 17. Halve it again: 17 ÷ 2 = 8.5. A size of 8.5 sits on the upper edge of the M band (above 7.5, up to 8.5), so the letter size is M. The tool therefore reports size 8.5, letter M and 8.66 in. A palm of 22.3 cm would pass 8.5 and become size 9 and letter L.

Common mistakes

  • Measuring the length of the hand or the wrist instead of the palm circumference. The input is the distance around the palm, not the hand length.
  • Including the thumb in the measurement. The tape goes around the four fingers' base, with the thumb left out, which gives a smaller number.
  • Entering the value in inches. The field is in centimetres, so 8.5 in must be typed as about 21.6.
  • Pulling the tape too tight or leaving it loose. A tight tape underestimates and a loose one overestimates, which can move you by half a size or more.
  • Ignoring the brand chart. The tool uses one fixed set of bands; if your reading is near the boundary (such as 8.5 or 9.5), look at the maker's own sizes and the glove's material, since leather stretches and synthetic fabric does not.

About this calculator

Glove sizing is based on hand circumference — measured around the palm at its widest point, just below the knuckles, excluding the thumb. This calculator takes that measurement in centimeters and converts it into a numeric glove size (roughly the circumference in inches, the traditional glove-sizing unit), the equivalent letter size from XS to XXL used by most clothing and safety-equipment brands, and the raw value in inches.

Accurate sizing matters for both fashion gloves, where a snug fit affects dexterity and appearance, and work and safety gloves (mechanic's, medical, or winter gloves), where a size that's too loose reduces grip and control while one that's too tight causes fatigue and restricts circulation during extended wear. Retailers and PPE buyers commonly reference size charts built exactly on this circumference-to-letter-size mapping.
