Customer Engagement Score Calculator
Measure how engaged your customers really are using a weighted activity score based on logins, session duration, feature adoption, and purchase activity.
Result
How it is calculated
Each of four behaviours is scaled to 0-100 against a fixed ceiling, and anything above the ceiling counts as 100: logins out of 30 per month, average session length out of 30 minutes, features used out of 10, and purchases out of 5. The score is then a fixed weighted sum: score = 0.30 × logins + 0.25 × session + 0.25 × features + 0.20 × purchases. The weights and ceilings cannot be changed in the tool. The label comes from the score: 80 or more Highly Engaged, 60 to under 80 Engaged, 40 to under 60 At Risk, below 40 Churn Risk. The feature adoption figure is features used divided by 10. Negative inputs return nothing; zeros are accepted.
Worked example
A customer logs in 18 times a month, averages 12 minutes per session, uses 4 features and made 2 purchases. Scaled scores: logins 18 ÷ 30 = 60, session 12 ÷ 30 = 40, features 4 ÷ 10 = 40, purchases 2 ÷ 5 = 40. Weighted: 0.30 × 60 = 18, 0.25 × 40 = 10, 0.25 × 40 = 10, 0.20 × 40 = 8. Total: 18 + 10 + 10 + 8 = 46.00. That falls in the 40 to 60 band, so the label is At Risk, and feature adoption is 40.00%.
Common mistakes
- Expecting more than 30 logins or more than 30 minutes to raise the score further. Both are capped, so 45 logins score the same as 30.
- Entering the total time per month instead of the average per session. The field is minutes per session; a value of 360 is simply capped at the maximum.
- Counting every click as a feature. The ceiling is 10 distinct features, so the number should be separate features the customer has actually used.
- Treating the label as a prediction. The thresholds (80, 60, 40) are fixed in the tool and the score does not know your product, so check them against real churn data.
About this calculator
A Customer Engagement Score combines several behavioral signals — typically login frequency, session duration, feature adoption, and purchase or renewal activity — into a single weighted number, usually normalized to a 0-100 scale, that summarizes how actively a customer is using a product.
SaaS and subscription businesses build these composite scores because no single metric tells the full story: a customer who logs in daily but never touches core features is at real churn risk despite looking 'active,' while one with lower login frequency but deep feature usage may be perfectly healthy. Customer success teams use engagement scores inside platforms like Gainsight or Totango, or in a simple spreadsheet model like this one, to flag at-risk accounts before renewal conversations and to prioritize which customers need proactive outreach.
This calculator combines monthly logins, average session minutes, features used and purchases into a single engagement score you can track over time or compare across your customer base. The weights are fixed (logins 30%, session time 25%, feature usage 25%, purchases 20%), and each signal counts up to a ceiling: 30 logins, 30 minutes per session, 10 features and 5 purchases. The result is placed in a band (high engagement at 80 and above, engaged from 60, at risk from 40, churn risk below 40) and shown with a feature adoption percentage.
