Kanal to Square Meter Converter
Enter a value and choose a direction to convert kanal and square meters.

How it is calculated
The conversion is a single multiplication with a fixed factor of 1 kanal = 505.857 m². Kanal to square metres: m² = kanal × 505.857. Square metres to kanal: kanal = m² ÷ 505.857. The direction selector (kanal2m2 or m22kanal) decides which formula runs; if none is chosen, kanal to m² is used. The value must be greater than zero. The answer is rounded to two decimals, and the factor is displayed rounded as 505.86 although the full 505.857 is used in the calculation. The same factor is used everywhere, so a kanal defined differently in a particular region or deed is not covered. Check the area stated in the title document if exactness matters.
Worked example
You see a plot advertised at 2.5 kanal and want it in square metres. Step 1: choose kanal to m². Step 2: multiply 2.5 × 505.857 = 1,264.6425. Step 3: round to two decimals, giving 1,264.64 m². The tool also prints the line "2.50 kanal = 1,264.64 m²". For the opposite direction, a 1,000 m² plot is 1,000 ÷ 505.857 = 1.98 kanal, which is a little under two kanal.
Common mistakes
- Choosing the wrong direction. Typing 1000 with kanal to m² selected gives about 505,857 m², an absurdly large plot.
- Mixing up kanal and marla. A kanal is 20 marla, so a plot given in marla must be converted to kanal first (divide by 20) before using this tool.
- Comparing against the rounded factor. 505.86 is only the displayed value; calculating by hand with 505.86 gives slightly different results on large areas.
- Assuming the kanal is identical in every region. The tool applies one fixed standard, and a locally defined kanal may give a different area.
- Entering zero or a negative number, which returns no result.
About this calculator
The kanal is a traditional land-area unit used across Pakistan and parts of northern India, especially Punjab, and remains the standard unit real estate listings quote for plots and agricultural land. One kanal equals 20 marla, and by the surveyed standard used in Pakistani land records, 1 kanal = 505.857 square meters (roughly 5,445 square feet).
Because official documents, land records, and Western-facing property platforms often use square meters while local listings and deeds use kanal and marla, buyers, sellers, and estate agents need quick, accurate conversion between the two to compare plot sizes or check a deed against a metric survey. This calculator converts a value between kanal and square meters in either direction using that standard factor.
